  • I Tamed the First Rank Chapter 37

In Yoo-shin blinked his eyes vigorously. Was it because of the magic of the morning sunlight shining through the window? This naturally handsome man looked unreasonably handsome. He almost replied, ‘You’re a handsome guy.’ “I-I’m…… I’m heterosexual.” “But there must be some guys you’re attracted to, right?” This time he was able to answer without hesitation. “Someone like Seong-gil -hyung-nim .” “…… Umm.” Hyeon Gyu-ha’s flawless smile cracked. He mumbled with a serious expression while playing with In Yoo-shin’s hair. ‘I think I heard something about aging skills…… I must have misheard him.’ His mumbling was so low that I couldn’t even hear it properly.  In Yoo-shin disregarded it. After work that day, a dinner party was held to celebrate the return of Choi Jin-hyeok and Song Chan-yeong, and In Yoo-shin was able to eat meat to his heart’s content thanks to his trainer loosening up after just one day. The video of Hyeon Gyu-ha begging his ex-boyfriend to accept him was a hot topic on the internet even after that. And a few days later, the Ministry of Ability’s promotional video was finally released, and like most internet issues, it ended in vain, and in the sobs of Hyeon Gyu-ha’s disappointed fans. 5. It’s been 60 years since the catastrophe. Humanity no longer considered the phenomena resulting from the gates unfamiliar, but there were still some people that were not used to them. “Honey!” “Su-hyeon- ah ! Mom, stay here!” It was the appearance of a monster. [(Ministry of Ability) As of 13:27, a sudden gate has occurred at Eungdeok Intersection in Yeonseo-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, so we request nearby residents to evacuate quickly. Action tips reference link.   Shelter confirmation link .] The open gate in the middle of the city bewildered many people. Although it was mandatory to learn how to act when a monster appeared at one’s school or workplace, it wasn’t common for people to be able to react calmly when faced with them in reality. Fortunately, there were two hunters among the passersby, giving ordinary citizens time to take refuge in an underground shelter. “Look this way!” The hunter tapped a shield pulled out of inventory with his fist, activating its ability. Mana waves rippled out, drawing the attention of the monster. The monster, which was targeting a student who had fallen next to a broken street tree, moved its three legs and flicked its long tongue like an anteater. One after another, arrows pierced its eyeballs, which were tightly packed like compound eyes. As it trembled with deep pain, it leapt to trample the student. Bang! The first blow was barely blocked by the shield and more arrows hit it, but then another monster charged in. “Shit! The two of us can’t do this alone!” “Reinforcements will be here soon!” “When!?” The hunter cursed, but pushed and deflected the monster away with his shield. “ Sunbae ! Look up, up!” While the other hunter behind him was reloading his bow, the flying monster took off. His shield was being used to block the monster that’s ramming it in front of him, so he couldn’t use it to protect himself against the monster coming from above. “Fuck!” The hunter reflexively covered his head with his hands. However, he knew that even if he did that, the monster’s grip would crush his skull. The monster’s beak, long and pointed like a pterodactyl’s, opened wide. “……?” But nothing happened. “W-what is it?” The hunter raised his head in confusion. Both the monsters that had been drawn in by their aggro (video game term for drawing aggravation) and those that had been wandering around without being targeted had all stopped in their tracks. “What ki-kind of ability is this?” “Uh, it’s…… I think it’s psychokinesis.” “How does that make sense? Psychokinesis, this clean?” The hunter, looking back to scold his junior, saw his junior staring blankly at the sky, so he followed suit and looked as well. There was a man there who made the impossible possible. When Hyeon Gyu-ha waved his hand half-heartedly, the heads of the monsters captured by psychokinesis spun 360 degrees. The bizarre sounds of skin being torn and flesh and bones twisting rang out from all directions. Despite the sound that would have given them goosebumps at any other time, the two hunters stared blankly into the air.  Was this a dream……? They weren’t the only hunters casting blank stares. “Wow…… How can he do that?” “He took less than a minute, right? Isn’t this the shortest record?” “As if there aren’t countless shortest records already made by him……” The Ministry of Ability’s civil service hunters, Jeong Min-jae and Kim Ho-jun, who were urgently deployed to the unexpected gate, could only be in awe. There was such an overwhelming level of difference that envy can’t be felt by hunters. ‘There was no need for us to come all the way, right?’ Jeong Min-jae glanced sideways at the SUV he had ridden, feeling a bit helpless. There was someone in the car who didn’t care, as if it was completely natural for Hyeon Gyu-ha to clean up whatever commotion was happening outside. “The first time a hidden boss came out a gate of a dungeon that hadn’t been cleared was in Warangal, India in 1953……” It was In Yoo-shin, who was studying hard for the written exam to obtain a hunter’s license. And there’s the one working outside alone, Hyeon Gyu-ha. Since it seemed like he would not budge even if the Ministry of Ability came and begged him, Manager Kim had no choice but to allow In Yoo-shin, an office worker, to accompany him. One might be anxious about being grouped together on a dangerous site every time, but it was surprising to Jeong Min-jae that In Yoo-shin, who was always paired up with Hyeon Gyu-ha, didn’t waver. ‘As expected, you need more than just a normal heart to date Team Leader Hyeon.’ Hyeon Gyu-ha, who instantly finished cleaning up the scene without a single drop of blood, descended from the sky and tapped on the window of the SUV. As the car window slowly rolled down, he quickly pushed his face in. “How was I?” At that moment, Jeong Min-jae hallucinated a tail violently wagging from Hyeon Gyu-ha’s butt, like that of a large dog seeking praise, and he rubbed his eyes roughly. “Min-jae- ya , let’s go.” Kim Ho-jun, who had become accustomed to the two of them showing affection anytime, anywhere, tapped him on the shoulder. “Oh, uh…… Okay.” Jeong Min-jae quickly followed him and ran to the scene of battle. Although he did not have the ability to annihilate monsters in an instant like Hyeon Gyu-ha, there were still many things he could do as a hunter. * If In Yoo-shin had to choose between studying and exercising, he would naturally choose studying. Even during his school days, his grades were always in the top ranks. He passed the written exam without any problems, and now all that remained was the physical fitness test. “Gyu-ha- ssi ! Look at this, I can see some abs on my stomach!” In Yoo-shin, who was sweating in the fitness room today, proudly lifted his top, but then he instinctively sensed danger in the glare of Hyeon Gyu-ha who was approaching him and quickly lowered his clothes. “Let me see it again.” “W-why?” “I want to feel Master’s abs.” “That’s sexual harassment……” “I own 98 percent of Yoo-shin- ssi ’s muscles.” “It’s my body, and yet I only own 2 percent of it?” “Protein supplements, three meals a day, training, threats.” “……” I guess he was aware that the training process was filled with threats…… In Yoo-shin, feeling like he was about to get dragged into a long conversation, quickly fled to the changing room. Of course, Hyeon Gyu-ha turned the handle of the locked door and used force to break in. “How did you tear it off with just your hands?!” “With love, nothing is impossible.”   “Those are supplies purchased with taxes……!” “I can just pay more taxes for what I destroy.” Using his body to block the broken door—and thus, the hole through which In Yoo-shin could escape—Hyeon Gyu-ha gestured. “I think Master will stop working out as soon as you pass the physical fitness test.” He flinched. “This moment may be the best muscle moment of Master’s life. Do you want to take a body profile picture?” “But body profile pictures are a bit too revealing……” “That’s why I want to take a picture.” “……!” “Just kidding.” A light of alert appeared in In Yoo-shin’s eyes again, and Hyeon Gyu-ha laughed and levitated him in the air. If he just picked me up, I could try to fight back, but since I was levitating at his will, all I could do was flail my limbs around. Hyeon Gyu-ha, who was sitting on a chair in the locker room, sat right next to him. His arms wrapped around Yoo-shin’s shoulders in a natural way. As Gyu-ha caressed the nape of his neck, his downy hair trembled at his fingertips, and his Adam’s apple bobbed slightly. “Hmm.” Pulling In Yoo-shin’s stiff back into his embrace and burying his face into the crown of his head, Hyeon Gyu-ha let out a satisfied sigh. The breath that escaped his lips tickled In Yoo-shin’s hair, causing his fingers to clench involuntarily. Hyeon Gyu-ha had been pursuing him more frequently ever since the Korea University festival. According to Lee Hye-yeon, he was trying really hard to win me over. ‘It seems like he hasn’t fully processed his anxiety of feeling abandoned.’ So today, In Yoo-shin could not escape his arms and calmly stayed there.  I was just nervous because it was skinship that I wasn’t used to, but I didn’t feel uncomfortable. ‘It’s similar to how drunk old men call each other ‘ hyung-nim’  and ‘ dong-saeng ’ while hugging each other, holding hands, and engaging in skinship, but I’m experiencing that about 20 years early……!’ No matter how hard he tried to put those thoughts out of his head, it was hard to erase the feeling of being in a strong and secure embrace. Especially after not being used to the warmth of other people. “Yoo-shin- ssi .” Suddenly, Hyeon Gyu-ha lowered his head. His gaze slowly drew closer. A slow breath brushed against his skin, and his fingertips gently stroked In Yoo-shin’s cheek. *** HM: I’m getting second hand embarrassment. Is there no one who returned after their training and wanted to use the locker room…. It was more than just a rumor and gave me goosebumps for a moment, but it didn’t matter since I wasn’t actually dating him. All we had to do was capture Hyeon Gyu-ha perfectly on camera.   So, upon hearing the news that Hyeon Gyu-ha would be drenched with water for no reason, the production team was fired up to record.   “Should I spray at him from above to make sure he gets even wetter?”    “A thin, white shirt that slightly reveals the skin, with the buttons almost completely undone to the bottom, showing the bare skin underneath.”   “I really like the way men wear short-sleeved shirts and how their cleavage stands out when they’re shown.”   “If possible, combine him with In Yoo-shin!”   “Splashed with water from the side, he’d frown slightly, while water drips from his hair and furrowed eyebrows.”   In a crowded conference room, the youngest child shyly raised his hand.   “How about tentacle monster bodily fluids?”   “I knew from the moment I saw his application that he was a genius.”   After much brainstorming, the director had a meeting with the digital communication team with the completed storyboard.   “Are you crazy?!”   Of course, it was rejected.   The result of refining the rejected draft with watery eyes: a sound storyboard for all ages was completed, and Hyeon Gyu-ha who was wet was changed to Hyeon Gyu-ha, slightly splattered with the blood of the demonic beasts. In order to maintain the all-ages rating, it was decided that the scenes would alternate with black and white footage.   In Yoo-shin felt a little disappointed.   Where had all the drafts that disregarded broadcast regulations gone? Gyu-ha protected the citizens in danger, hunted down the monsters, then made his final comment: ‘A country where the people are safe. A country where the people are happy. The Ministry of Ability will be with you.’  It was truly a video worthy of a government department.   ‘There was no way that plan would pass in the first place. It’s a waste to do the wet scene……’   That’s one thing, but there was another problem as well.   “I understand everything, but why must I  be in this studio?”   In Yoo-shin yawned, still feeling half-asleep from being forcibly picked up by Hyeon Gyu-ha and brought to the studio much earlier than his usual work time. Hyeon Gyu-ha made a shocked face.   “Is Master trying to leave me alone   during the filming, which is supposed to take all day?”   “T-that’s not true, but you can just call me…… I also have work to do……”   “Are you going to abandon me?”   “I was wrong……”   The staff, who were busy preparing for filming, responded with excitement to the word ‘Master.’ Hyeon Gyu-ha’s expression, which seemed to be genuinely hurt, seemed to stimulate their imagination even more. It was distressing for In Yoo-shin, who couldn’t reveal that it was all a fake act.   “Well, anyway.”   Hyeon Gyu-ha gently stroked In Yoo-shin’s head, as if he never made a shocked face.  It may seem like rough petting to others, but in reality, he was so careful, as though he were caressing a broken piece of glass, that I felt a tingle inside my ribs every time he caressed my head.   “I feel so anxious when I’m away from you, but I don’t think I’ll be able to set aside time to call because I’m busy filming. Plus, I can’t keep the coordinates up during the shoot.”   “What coordinates?”   “That is, my heart’s coordinates so that Yoo-shin- ssi  can love me.” “Ah, sure.”   “Aren't you glad you can legally skip work, thanks to me?”   Honestly, it was. It's not like they're even cutting my annual leave.   In Yoo-shin decided to watch the filming in peace. Since I didn’t have the slightest connection to the broadcasting industry, when would I ever see a studio other than times like this?   The greenscreen and various filming equipment that he had only seen on the Internet were amazing. Although he watched the filming storyboard process, he was curious about how the CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery) for the monsters would be applied.   “Hello, Yoo-shin -ssi !”   “Hello. Thank you for your hard work this morning.”   Ohana greeted him warmly, holding a camcorder as if she were in charge of filming the vlog today.   “Did you see the reaction to the vlog we filmed last time?”   “No. I only heard that it went well.”   “It was amazing. In less than ten minutes after we uploaded it, it had the highest number of views among videos on the Ministry of Ability’s channel. There are also comments occasionally expressing affection for Yoo-shin-ssi.”   “Uh, me? Why me?”   In Yoo-shin’s eyes became round. Hyeon Gyu-ha stressed that not a single strand of my hair should be featured in the vlog, so why?   “Well, it’s all thanks to Yoo-shin that Hunter -nim  is actively showing his face these days! Actually, I used to be a bit of a fan of Hunter- nim  too.”   “I thought that there would be hate comments about me.”   “It’s not like there aren’t any negative comments about Yoo-shin- ssi  elsewhere, but in general, the reaction isn’t bad…… but it would still be better not to see those reactions. They say that even if there are a lot of good comments, one bad comment is more memorable.”   That’s correct. If you didn’t want to worry about them, it was better not to look at them in the first place.   “The response was so good that I’d like to do a live broadcast for at least 30 minutes before filming begins……”   “No way.”   Hyeon Gyu-ha, who was receiving stage directions from the director from afar, heard something and cut her off with a single sword.   “Yoo-shin -ssi  doesn’t like it. If Yoo-shin -ssi  appears on live by mistake, I’ll have to pay a penalty and cancel this shoot.”   “Of course, I was just saying.”   Ohana, who smiled shyly at Gyu-ha, frowned at In Yoo-shin and walked around the studio holding the camcorder. Then, full-scale filming began in earnest.   The video to be edited for broadcast was 30 seconds, and the original video to be uploaded to YouTube was two to three minutes long at most, so I thought it would be over quickly. It was a misjudgment by In Yoo-shin, who did not know much about filming.   “Cut! Man 2 over there doesn’t look like he’s afraid of the monster, but rather like he’s holding back a full bladder. Do it again.”   There were stage directions for the extras who played the roles of the citizens Hyeon Gyu-ha saved, and the same action scenes that were to be used in CGI were filmed over and over again.   ‘Since it’s Gyu-ha’s first time filming, won’t he be stiff? Maybe he’ll move all creaky, like he has metal rods in his limbs.’   Although I was concerned, Gyu-ha’s acting, which was basically just pretending to fight monsters, was surprisingly natural. He’s a man who seemed to be good at anything he was asked to do.   However, the scene didn’t come out the way the director wanted. The director stopped filming for a moment and asked while stroking his beard.   “Hunter Hyeon. Do you use any weapons other than guns? The scene looks great on screen because your action is so fluid without wires, but something feels a bit lacking.”   “Since I only fight solo, I usually use guns to push through with firepower.”   “What about a melee weapon? I feel like a sword or a spear or something similar would be good. Or something like a bayonet.”   “I use just about everything.”   “Ooh, then let’s change weapons! A bayonet—no, a sword! The kao  (‘reputation’ aka ‘face’ in Japanese) of a hunter is, after all, his sword!”   “Don’t speak Japanese.”   “ Un?  Ah, well…… Anyway! It’s a sword. A sword!”   “This is not a matter for the director or I to choose.”   Hyeon Gyu-ha cut off his words firmly and naturally looked back at In Yoo-shin.   “Master, what is good for my kao ?”   In Yoo-shin, who was watching in a corner, was startled when the eyes of the entire studio suddenly turned to him. In particular, the expression on the director’s face when he was just chastised for speaking Japanese was worth seeing.   What would be better for Hyeon Gyu-ha’s kao , or rather, his coolness?   ‘I think anything will look cool on him.’   If Hyeon Gyu-ha were to hit a monster with a fly swatter, the picture would come out beautifully.  However, the thing that left an impression on In Yoo-shin was an axe—the axe that eradicated Karens.   “A……”   Just as he was about to say ‘axe’, In Yoo-shin made eye contact with the director. The director, who found out who the person voluntarily controlling Hyeon Gyu-ha was, desperately tried to keep his mouth shut. Sword! Sword! Sword! Sword! Sword! Sword! Sword! Sword! Swoooooord!!   “I-I think a sword would be cool.”   “I see.”   Hyeon Gyu-ha immediately pulled out a Korean sword—a hwando —from his inventory. The blade was engraved with constellations and sword patterns decorated with silver thread, and the hilt had auspicious patterns and decorations. As the person in charge, Team Leader Noh of the digital communication team was watching the shoot, and his eyes lit up.   “Isn’t that the sword?”   “Yes. Since this year is the Year of the Black Tiger, this is a new sainchamsageom  (a type of Korean sword traditionally forged during specific times believed to imbue them with spiritual power) that Seong-gil -hyung  forged for me.” “On top of that, this sword is forged by Master Kwon? Director, this is fine. Let’s do this.”   “It works! Of course! If it’s a sainchamsageom , that’s the one, right? That sword, forged in the year, month, day, and hour of the Tiger, meant to slay evil! What is the constellation on the blade?”    “It’s the Big Dipper!”   “Ooh, the Big Dipper! Anyway, Hunter Hyeon is holding his signature sword, and the blade with the constellation on it shines brightly as he hunts monsters! Whoa……!”   Hitting it off with Team Leader Noh, the director stood in front of the camera as if he had received a revelation from heaven, and filming proceeded without a hitch.   “Studio filming ends here! We still have time, but let’s go to the gate right away!”   In Yoo-shin also tried to help move the filming equipment, but the staff strongly discouraged him.   “Boyfriend, rest comfortably! Take it easy!”   Standing shyly in the corner, In Yoo-shin, who was a little embarrassed because everyone was busy while he was doing nothing, felt a sudden sense of shame. Then, a few seconds later, he flew through the air and landed in Hyeon Gyu-ha’s arms. “Hmm, as expected, I feel the most stable when we’re in close contact.”   After checking Yoo-shin’s weight and letting him down to the floor, Gyu-ha lightly placed his hand on top of In Yoo-shin’s head, and the corner of his eyes crinkled.   “How was I?”   “Your kao  is alive.”   This was not an empty remark—it was unlike usual, like a scene from a movie, with Hyeon Gyu-ha wielding a sword while his long coat flaps in the wind. Wouldn’t it be even cooler if there were a CG of the battle against the monsters? In Yoo-shin thought that once the video got uploaded on YouTube, he should download it in high definition.   “Then, today’s surprise quest.”   Hyeon Gyu-ha bent down, and In Yoo-shin looked around and confirmed that no one was paying attention to them, then patted his head and praised him. He had also got used to handling people.   However, he never got used to the nice scent he smelled every time he got closer.   We left the studio, travelling for 40 minutes to arrive at the national gate. It's a location with a continuous gate near Seoul, where we'll briefly film the sunset scene.   Originally, the crew planned to finish filming here and return to the studio to continue, but thanks to the director’s excitement after seeing the sainchamsageom , studio filming ended ahead of schedule.   “It’ll end smoothly, right? If there are no problems in the dungeon, this will be the last shooting!”   The filming ended earlier than expected, and smiles bloomed on the faces of the staff, who were exhausted from the relentless filming that had gone on since the morning.   Then, of course, a problem arose. *** PA: Hello~~~ everyone~~~ I hope you have a nice day. Editor M: Someone save me… I had to open Wikipedia to edit this chapter properly… (TwT) The sword that Hyeon Gyu-ha uses in this chapter is most likely a sainchamsageom ; the sword’s name literally means ‘Great Four Tiger Sword.’ This is a ceremonial sword that is used for demon slaying and Shamanistic rituals. • I Tamed the First Rank Chapter 36

In Yoo-shin did not know that, although healing from a tamer could cure minor problems such as wounds or colds, it was impossible to cure diseases that had even altered genes. The three white rats grew cold before the end of summer vacation. 1- se  was forced to leave his home as its adoption was dissolved. In Yoo-shin found out later that 1- se  had died when the link between their souls disappeared. Up until its death, 1- se  had been searching for the whereabouts of its master that had suddenly disappeared. 2- se  died during a dungeon break. The 3- se , 4- se , and 5- se  died while he was feeling foolishly optimistic that he would be able to keep raising them. As he cried in fear for the warmth slowly cooling down on his palm, In Yoo-shin acutely realized what taming really was. * In Yoo-shin looked up at the ceiling and blinked his eyes blankly. The corners of his eyes were a little stiff, as if he had shed tears in his sleep. No matter how much energy I restored to 6-se, she wouldn’t live that long since she was a hamster. The reason I decided to tame bats was because they had a longer lifespan than rats. “Did you sleep well?” In Yoo-shin gave a weak morning greeting. “You woke up early.” “I usually have trouble sleeping at night.” The man, who would live much longer than a hamster or a bat, smiled as he caressed the hand he had been holding all night. [Name: Henry Raymond Charles Francois VII] [Current Status: Murderous Intent. ??.] * What on earth were those question marks? In Yoo-shin was puzzled by the question marks that appeared in the status window. Was it something similar to murderous intent, like hostility or hatred? I wanted to ask him what he was thinking, but since ‘??’ seemed like a default status, I guess he’d just say he’s not thinking about anything again if I asked. In the past, I didn’t take it seriously when he said he wasn’t thinking, but now I’m worried about how he really didn’t think about anything. ‘Eh, I don’t know. The letters may have malfunctioned and that’s why question marks appeared. Whether it’s murderous intent or hostility, I think it’s good for Gyu-ha -ssi  to have something on his mind.’ Because I got involved with Hyeon Gyu-ha, I felt like the only skill I had improved was ignoring things I didn’t understand. The fact that I was even thinking about this meant that I had gotten used to riding this bike. Clinging to the back of Hyeon Gyu-ha, who was steering the bike, In Yoo-shin put the status window away. Due to the nature of the work, civil servant hunters and the Hunter Affairs Department operated in shifts. Even though it’s the weekend today, there were still quite a few employees visible, though not as many as on a weekday. “Hm?” I didn’t know if it was because of my mood, but the employees we encountered today seemed to greet us with awkward smiles . In Yoo-shin gently grabbed the sleeve of Hyeon Gyu-ha as they walked side-by-side. “Gyu-ha- ssi , don’t you feel that today is a little strange?” “After sleeping with you, Master, the world looks so beautiful.” “……” I shouldn’t have asked. When In Yoo-shin tried to gently let go of his sleeve, his hand was grabbed. He wiggled his fingers, trapped in the warm embrace of the hand that was larger than his. The festival from just yesterday came to mind…… ‘Oh, only people who came to the school festival would have seen it, so how much interest would there be if an eyewitness account was posted on the internet? It wasn’t even live-streamed! Haha!’ After shaking off his discomfort, In Yoo-shin opened the office door with a cheerful smile. “Good morning!” “Yoo-shin has arrived!” Paper streamers and confetti rained down on their heads with a popping sound. “Congratulations on breaking up with your stalker, Yoo-shin- ah !” “Congrats.” The falling pieces of paper were blocked by Hyeon Gyu-ha’s force field and fluttered down. “Huh? Nu-nim , what do you mean by that?” “I heard you dumped Gyu-ha while eating tteokbokki !” “What?!” “However…… since I still see Gyu-ha clinging to your side, I guess you two have reconciled.” Lee Hye-yeon clicked her tongue, showing her disappointment. “N-no, we didn’t break up in the first place! Before that, how did you find out?!” “We saw a video on the internet?” In Yoo-shin searched Hyeon Gyu-ha’s name on his cell phone and despaired in just thirty seconds. I understood now why I had received a text from Park Seung-gi in the morning saying ‘Cheer up.’ ‘Why did that happen!? On a livestream!? Aahhhhh!’ Lee Hye-yeon patted In Yoo-shin’s shoulder as he covered his face with his hands, unable to bear the embarrassment. “Gyu-ha covered your face well, so it wasn’t exposed.” “That’s a relief, but……” “But the sight of Gyu-ha begging you not to abandon him was pretty clear in view.” In Yoo-shin glanced at Hyeon Gyu-ha with a tearful expression. “Are you okay to have rumors like this floating around, Gyu-ha- ssi ?” “Why wouldn’t I? It’s all true, anyway. I don’t care if my begging for Yoo-shin-ssi is live-streamed—not just here, but all over the world. I won’t be able to survive even a day without you, Master, so please don’t abandon me in the future either.” “Ew, that’s gross.” Shuddering, Lee Hye-yeon pushed a cup of coffee and a macaron at him. “I bought these because I thought you might need them today.” “Thank you for this food……” Still, the macaron was delicious. After regaining some energy, Lee Hye-yeon motioned to the other hunters in her office. “I guess we’re a bit late in introducing ourselves? These are the guys who’ve returned today after being dispatched to the countryside. The guy with the black hair is the Gamma team’s leader, Choi Jin-hyeok , and the guy with glasses is Song Chan-yeong. Now that you’ve met these guys too, I’ve pretty much introduced you to everyone except for those on leave or training.” Even though I knew there were strangers when I came in, I was so preoccupied that I forgot to say hello . In Yoo-shin quickly wiped away the macaron crumbs from his mouth and bowed his head. “Hello, I’m In Yoo-shin.” “I’m Choi Jin-hyeok.” “I’ve heard a lot about you.” “Ah, Hunter Choi Jin-hyeok -nim ! Are you the hunter who cleared the Taebaek Mountain gate back in January?” In Yoo-shin remembered Choi Jin-hyeok a beat later and let out an exclamation. The man who had previously given a terse “Congrats,” to Lee Hye-yeon’s teasing now gave a cold nod. Choi Jin-hyeok, whose awakening ability was toxikinesis (power of toxins), was one of the few top rankers in the ability department like Lee Hye-yeon. “And, hi there……” In Yoo-shin greeted him warmly, but he couldn’t remember who Song Chan-yeong was. Song Chan-yeong smiled cheerfully at him as his face turned red with embarrassment. “It’s obvious that you don’t remember, so don’t worry. I graduated from medical school the year before last and am a healer currently working as a resident at the Ministry of Ability.” Healers with medical knowledge could treat injuries more efficiently. Because of this, there were some healing practitioners who completed nursing degrees or higher. Amateur healer In Yoo-shin felt a pang of guilt. ‘Would it be a good idea to study even just at the surface level?’ Song Chan-yeong smiled amiably and held out one of his hands. “Please take care of me in the future.” Of course, In Yoo-shin also wanted to shake hands. “……?” Before he could reach out, Hyeon Gyu-ha’s hand quickly darted out from behind his back and seized Song Chan-young’s hand instead. Their forearms brushed, and a status window popped up. [Current Status: Murderous Intent. ??. Restraint. Competitive Spirit.] ‘Competitive spirit? What competitive spirit?’ Hyeon Gyu-ha placed his hand on top of In Yoo-shin’s head, who was embarrassed, and spoke confidently. “I’m Yoo-shin- ssi ’s pet, Hyeon Gyu-ha.” “Erm, uh, wh-what?” “No one else can become one of my Master’s pets, so don’t waste your time here.” Song Chan-yeong, who experienced Hyeon Gyu-ha for the first time, was very embarrassed, and In Yoo-shin was also embarrassed and his face turned red. Meanwhile, Lee Hye-yeon frowned. “I could just sew that jerk’s mouth shut, but I can’t.” “This guy really doesn’t change.” Choi Jin-hyeok, who was already acquainted with Hyeon Gyu-ha, shook his head and left the office. “Sorry, sorry. Our Gyu-ha -ssi  usually speaks his mind without thinking first.” “Ahaha…… He’s just like what I’ve heard.” Fortunately, Song Chan-young was not upset. What a good person. Taking Hyeon Gyu-ha to a corner, In Yoo-shin jabbed his side and whispered to him. “What do you mean by ‘pet’?” “It’s a bit like being a hamster.” “Well, you do give off a friendly impression, but…… what do hamsters have to do with it?” “Aren’t they Yoo-shin- ssi ’s type?” “No, I think?” It’s true that I like hamsters, but I didn’t particularly like their faces . In Yoo-shin was confused; at the same time, Hyeon Gyu-ha said, “Hmm.” He seemed to think about it, then bowed his waist. His gaze from above suddenly descended and made eye contact with In Yoo-shin. They had met eyes countless times, but today his heart reacted to Gyu-ha’s face as it got closer. When he took a step back in embarrassment at the sound of his heart pounding, Hyeon Gyu-ha held him still with one arm around his waist. His long eyelashes shimmered in the morning sunlight, and a soft smile appeared on his lips. “Then, what kind of man do  you like?” *** HM: 0-0 this author loves to end in cliff-hangers Editor M: Actually, I get the feeling that the length of each part is determined by the original website. ------ Credits: Translator: Hoshi Miya Editor/Proofreader: Editor M We made a discord server! please join us!

In Yoo-shin’s eyes widened as he settled down on the bed. “Is your bed really this large?” It felt like a level above king size. I didn’t understand why a man who lived alone bought such a large bed. “We’ll sleep in this big bed without doing anything—just holding hands.” “……” “You don’t trust your pet rat?” “……” When he met his gaze, filled with surprise and longing, all the trust he had in them vanished. Yet, with the persistent separation anxiety displayed as his status, I couldn’t bring myself to say no. ‘He must’ve been really upset today, so I’ll just humor him for a day or so……’ The nagging feeling that I was always the one making concessions was likely just my imagination. “Are we really just holding hands and sleeping?” “I may have hidden things from Master, but I have never told a harmful lie.” Alright then. At this point, it’s like he’d preemptively announce, “I’m going to lie to you now,” before actually telling the lie. As In Yoo-shin fluffed up his pillow and lay down, Hyeon Gyu-ha quickly lay down next to him. The blanket automatically slid up to cover the two people’s bodies, and the lights suddenly turned off. Looking relieved, Gyu-ha stretched out his arm that was squirming under the blanket and grabbed In Yoo-shin’s hand. “That meddlesome couple kept saying a bigger bed would be better, and it was really annoying, but now I’m so glad that I got a big one.” “Is this the same bed that Seong-gil -hyung  and Hye-yeon -noona  chose?” “Yes. All of the interior is a joint effort between Yoo Byeon and his wife.” Hyeon Gyu-ha, who had been fiddling with the hand he was holding, clasped their hands together. In Yoo-shin inadvertently squeezed the hand that was not being held. In order to divert his attention from Hyeon Gyu-ha’s thumb, which was loosely stroking the skin of his palm, In Yoo-shin brought up another topic. “This is the first time I’ve shared a bed with someone else since I left the orphanage. It was an orphanage at a temple, so we all slept together on the floor with mats and mattresses. Sometimes, we would be woken up in the middle of the night because someone was snoring loudly or grinding their teeth. One of the boys there had bad sleep habits, and I once got hit by his arm when I was sleeping. As In Yoo-shin continued talking and became engrossed, Hyeon Gyu-ha, who had been quietly listening to his voice chattering away, smiled and whispered softly. “I guess you had fun.” In Yoo-shin took a breath and then answered. “…… Yes. It was nice.” At that time, I was annoyed, but looking back now, even that was a good memory. Maybe the reason I could fall asleep listening to 6 - se turning the hamster wheel or playing alone was because I needed those noisy nights from the past. Hyeon Gyu-ha tapped their intertwined fingers as if responding to his words. “Did I tell you that I was in an orphanage when I was young? I don’t have any good memories like Yoo-shin -ssi . Even though we were in similar situations, you made memories there.” “…… May I ask how you ended up at the orphanage?” “Sure, ask me anything. I’ll tell you anything I can answer. I like it when Yoo-shin -ssi  takes interest in me.” Hyeon Gyu-ha’s face was blurred through his vision, which had become accustomed to the dark. The sensation of their clasped hands, the soft voice he heard, and his five senses wrapped in darkness become more concentrated in Hyeon Gyu-ha again. “My mother was a person with a strong wanderlust. If she had been born in the Joseon Dynasty, she probably would have become a peddler and traveled all over the country. Anyway, whenever she left home for months at a time, she would leave me at an orphanage. She had completely cut off ties with my grandmother, so there was no one else in the family who could take care of me.” “……” “But somehow, my grandmother found out. She immediately came to take me out of the orphanage, and then she had a huge fight with my mother when she came home.” “They say that the biggest pain for children is when their parents fight……” “Well, I was so young that I don’t remember it well. Maybe I just resigned myself to the fact that my mother was that kind of person from an early age. She was someone who never stood still, always running full speed towards her goals—whether it was her goal as a hunter or as a lover.” Or as a lover. For some reason, the tone of the voice that said those words sounded self-mocking. In Yoo-shin hesitated and then asked cautiously. “If it’s love… then what about Gyu-ha- ssi ’s father?” Suddenly, Hyeon Gyu-ha let out a quiet laugh. The laugh that crawled up his throat and resonated deeply fell from his lips and dissipated with a cynical feeling. “It seems she loved him so much that she even abandoned her child at an orphanage and blindly chased after him.” “……” “So, anyway.” He continued his words in a light tone as if he doesn’t care about his mother’s blind love for his father. His words and actions seemed to paradoxically indicate emotional shackles, so In Yoo-shin kept his mouth shut. “For me, the orphanage was a place where my mother left me. It was also a place she would pick me up from after a few months. Maybe that’s why I couldn’t open up to the people I met at the orphanage. Looking back, I think I always had this underlying thought that I would be leaving in a few months anyway.” “……” “Then I went to live with my grandmother, and not long after that, my mother went missing and my grandmother passed away in an accident. That’s when I was permanently sent to the orphanage. I was 9 years old then.” “If that happened when Gyu-ha was 9 years old……” “That’s right. The gate then opened at the orphanage.” The fact that Hyeon Gyu-ha was the youngest person to clear a dungeon and go to a training center at the age of 9 was an incident that was so famous that even In Yoo-shin, who had not been very interested in him in the past, knew about it. “Even after leaving the training center, I moved around here and there, but I always stayed in solitary confinement. So, Yoo-shin -ssi , this is my first time lying next to someone since I was 9 years old.” Hyeon Gyu-ha laughed softly as if he were satisfied with that. This man was, after all, a person who had lived a life of burden incomparable to my own. In Yoo-shin gazed at the depth of the life he had endured and slightly gave strength to his clasped hand. “If you’re bored sleeping alone, call me. I’ll just hold your hand and sleep.” A soft laugh ran out quietly in the darkness. “I’ll certainly do so, Master.” * Yoo-shin -ssi . Hyeon Gyu-ha was worried that he might wake up In Yoo-shin, so he didn’t dare to call out his name and instead just rolled it on his tongue. While Yoo-shin slept soundly, Gyu-ha caressed the hand clasped in his own, then lay down on his side and carefully embraced Yoo-shin. He would often leave a kiss on the back of his hand, but because Yoo-shin had fallen asleep, it was difficult to even hold him in his arms. To keep him from waking up, Hyeon Gyu-ha gently ran his fingers through the hair on the top of his head and lightly pressed their lips together. The small warmth of the person tossing and turning in his arms gently spread to his heart. 〈Master is not ordinary either.〉 Hyeon Gyu-ha remembered the look on his face when he heard those words. Those puzzled black eyes were wondering if he was an ordinary person. He couldn’t be an ordinary person. 〈You can keep thinking about wanting to kill me, and you can say it to me too. I think that it would be better than not thinking about anything at all.〉 There’s no way that a person who said that calmly and sincerely to someone who could kill him would be normal. Hyeon Gyu-ha knew his own reputation. Since he found no meaning in this world, he acted without impulse, feeling unburdened by consequences. Despite being repeatedly swayed, immobilized, and strung along by Hyeon Gyu-ha, the firm resolve built within In Yoo-shin's heart had never once wavered. Yoo-shin -ssi . I was suddenly curious about what his strong heart was made of. Hyeon Gyu-ha felt unfamiliar with the desire to thoroughly understand the essence of others, and he deeply embraced In Yoo-shin. Was it because all this unfamiliarity was tied to the relationship of taming?  He contemplated as he felt the gentle breathing of In Yoo-shin, who was defenseless and sleeping soundly in his arms. What   if I met him normally without being involved in any kind of relationship with him? Nevertheless, Hyeon Gyu-ha found himself ultimately chasing him in the end. I didn’t know what the name of this feeling was. * During the summer vacation after high school, In Yoo-shin started working part-time without the monks’ knowledge. He went out every day under the pretext of studying at the library and visited the pharmaceutical company’s research center. He mainly assisted in the office work and also cleaned the laboratory when it was busy. Then, after the experiment was over, he saw three white rats. 〈Director -nim , can I take care of them in a corner of the lab? I won’t interfere with your work.〉 〈If you leave them alone, they’ll die before long……〉 The researcher was worried, but eventually gave permission. It had been almost ten years, but taming them wasn’t difficult. He named them 3- se , 4- se , and 5- se  in turn. He blushed when he had given the name 5-se, but he wanted to keep the name he remembered from that time so that these memories could be remembered. As they interacted with their owner and received healing, the white rats that seemed to be dying appeared to regain their energy. [Current Status: Joy. Stable.] 〈Somehow, their fur seems to be more shiny than before.〉 Researchers who did not know that he had a taming ability were curious, so they came to see them. 〈No matter how necessary clinical trials were, I felt uneasy since they kept sacrificing rats, but I’m glad that they seem to be healthy.〉 I was content. Maybe I could explain the situation to the monks and continue to raise them at the orphanage. He even had such a simple dream. It was a futile dream. *** HM: It feels a bit cruel TwT… I often hear about animals like rats or pigs being used like this…. • I Tamed the First Rank Chapter 26

“What? What are you filming here?” A man approached the gate where filming equipment was being set up. His voice sounded somewhat familiar to him, so he turned around and saw that it was Kwon Seong-gil. “ Hyung !” “Hey, In Yoo-shin. How are you? Gyu-ha isn’t bothering you, right?” “Umm, yeah. What are you doing here, hyung ?” “I came to meet my honey…… Uh, isn't it rude for Hyeon Gyu-ha to not even say hello to me when we make eye-contact? …… Anyway, so is this it? The shooting for the Ministry of Ability’s promotional video?” Team Leader Noh came rushing over with a surprised look on his face. “Master Kwon! Is Hunter Lee Hye-yeon in the dungeon?” “Her friend’s attack party was short on people, so he went in with them to help out, and they’re supposed to come out around this evening……” “This is a big problem.” Perplexed, Team Leader Noh called the Hunter Support Bureau and began to assess the situation. This was meant to be a short shot that captured the time when the sun was setting. Administrative procedures were already underway; the hunter teams hunting in the dungeon must completely withdraw from noon onwards for the gate scene’s filming, and this had also been announced a few days prior. It wouldn’t matter if the hunters currently inside continued hunting. However, if they were to rush out of the gate precisely when the cameras were rolling, today’s filming would be ruined. It might take a few more days to get permission to film again, to evict the street vendors in front of the gate, and to issue a notice for talkative hunters to vacate the dungeon. “Team Leader, the attack team that Hunter Lee Hye-yeon joined is Hunter Kang Eun-ji’s team, right? They said the message was delivered properly, but it seems the party members got the dates mixed up. You can’t make phone calls inside the gate, so……” Team Leader Noh scratched his head and then looked back at the director. “Let’s proceed with the filming first. We can only hope that the party inside will come out a little later.” “If it doesn’t work out, there is a way to handle it with CG.” “Our production costs……” That was the sorrow of a working-level employee trying to save every penny on a tight budget. Anyway, filming resumed. With the gate in the background, Hyeon Gyu-ha coolly dispatches the monsters and turns around, his long coat flapping in the wind, and the light of the setting sun catching him beautifully……  This was roughly the storyboard full of the production team’s selflessness. “Hm.” However, Hyeon Gyu-ha, who was supposed to be creating a scene straight out of a photoshoot—a handsome man bathed in the sunset in front of the gate—tilted his head instead of engaging in swordplay. “It looks like a monster is about to come out.” He spoke so casually that it took several seconds for the audience to understand what his words meant. “I beg your pardon!?” Hyeon Gyu-ha responded indifferently to the people who were belatedly screaming in panic. “The mana at the gate’s entrance is a little unusual.” “A d-dungeon break?!” “It’s not that bad, but it seems a rather big one will come out. I’ll take care of it quickly, so please get back.” People swallowed dryly as, one by one, they vividly recalled the fact that the person with the calm voice was an S-class hunter. [Current Status: Murderous Intent. Intrigue. Boredom.] In Yoo-shin was probably the only person looking at him with concern. Hyeon Gyu-ha made a slight gesture. “Master, come here. You’re safest next to me.” “Huh? Hyeon Gyu-ha! Me?!” “ Hyung , you have a lot of shield cores.” [Current Status: Murderous Intent. Intrigue.] Noticing that Gyu-ha’s sense of boredom disappeared the moment their eyes met, In Yoo-shin asked. “Will it be okay?” “It’s probably weaker than Atabeyra.” I didn’t mean to ask whether he could defeat the monster, but……  In Yoo-shin sighed lightly. If he were an ordinary person, what color would the emotions of a man who was dominated by boredom, even when facing a monster that dictated life and death, be painted over with? “At this distance, the monster’s bodily fluids probably won’t splatter on you.” Hyeon Gyu-ha placed a light force field around In Yoo-shin. Seeing that he was worried not about getting injured but rather about getting dirty from splashing bodily fluids, it must be an easy opponent.  In Yoo-shin decided to bury his secret concerns in his heart for now. The distorted entrance of the gate vibrated like an image formed on opaque glass. The moment when a weak-hearted person let out a small scream— “Shyaaaa!” A monster burst out of the gate, gaping open a huge ring-shaped maw as if it would swallow a person whole. Rolling its featureless face where eyes should have been, the monster immediately charged towards Hyun Gyu-ha, who was at the very front. Shaped like an earthworm with centipede legs, this monster had the characteristic of moving underground, as befitting its appearance. That was probably why the hunters who were inside the gate missed it. “Uwaaack!” The shadow of the monster fell heavily. People screamed because it seemed as if Hyeon Gyu-ha and In Yoo-shin had been swallowed whole in an instant, but that was the extent of it. “Shyaah!” The monster opened its maw wide, dripping corrosive saliva, and did not move from its spot—no, it couldn’t move. It was caught by Hyeon Gyu-ha’s psychokinesis. “If I hadn’t put up the force field, it would have been a big problem, right?” “It’s a bit weird to take a shower in monster spit.” The monster’s saliva could not penetrate the force field and flowed down. In Yoo-shin’s complexion turned pale. He didn’t feel any danger of being harmed by the monster since Hyeon Gyu-ha was next to him, but witnessing its gaping maw right in front of his nose gave him goosebumps. ‘Eugh…… It’s really gross.’  A crimson, finely wrinkled esophagus and countless small teeth growing out the mouth—how utterly grotesque! As In Yoo-shin recoiled in disgust and squeezed his eyes shut, Hyeon Gyu-ha laughed slightly. “I’ll take care of it right away.” And he did. Unlike during filming, when he performed flashy movements to suit the director’s enthusiasm, Hyeon Gyu-ha lightly drew a single horizontal line with his mana-infused signature sword. The mana carried by the sword shot through the air and split the monster’s body in half. That was the end of it. “I recently developed a new skill that uses psychokinesis, and it’s called ‘Sword Energy Emission.’” “That sounds so cool.” Given that he’s the owner of a naming sense that’s considered “cool,” exemplified by ‘Gapsik’ and ‘Henry Raymond Charles Francois,’ wasn’t it likely that he actually thought really hard to name something ‘Sword Energy Emission’? “No, I…… That, uh……” Unlike In Yoo-shin, who went to the dungeon with Hyeon Gyu-ha once and became numb to his strength, the people outside lived ordinary lives. A monster was slaughtered in the blink of an eye before their very eyes. Split in half, the monster rolled around right in front of them, sending dust into the air. Even so, they were stammering at the nonchalant conversation between the two of them, when another identical monster appeared. “If this is enough, get some rest! You disgusting earthworm!” “Burn it quickly!” “Fireball!” “Playing With Fire!” “Stop calling that damn skill name—it’s so cheesy!” Along with a hunting party of hunters. “Oh my, I’m so sorry! While we were hunting, we lost them right in front of our previous base. Is anyone hurt?” The woman who landed the finishing blow by splitting the head of the monster, which was burning and writhing in pain, bowed and repeatedly apologized to those around her. If a monster bursted out of the gate, it was considered 100% the fault of that attack team. Turning her head in all directions, the woman looked at the crowd staring at her with blank expressions and tilted her head. “Have you gotten mental trauma……? Why are there so many people here? Is there an event going on?” “Team Leader Lee, that’s what I meant.” Only then did Team Leader Noh, who came to his senses, try to explain the situation, and Kwon Seong-gil ran up to the woman. “Noona- ah !” “Seong-gil-aaah!” Kwon Seong-gil clung to Lee Hye-yeon, who had a small stature of around 150 centimeters, and Lee Hye-yeon embraced him passionately. They spun around while sharing feelings of a warm reunion. The director, who never took his eyes off the camera even while the monsters were out, laughed. “I like this recording, Team Leader Noh. Don’t you think it’ll be easy to put it into the promotional video?” “That’s certainly the case.” In the meantime, Team Leader Noh replied by looking sideways at the other couple, who were stroking each other’s heads. It seemed like the calmness of the couple could also be woven into the theme of the promotional video on national safety. Of course, if they actually did that, they would likely be cut down by Hyeon Gyu-ha, who was reluctant to have his boyfriend publicly exposed. “Oh, you’re saying you’ll edit the part where we were burning the monster outside the gate into the promotional video?” “I’ll have to edit the details to find out, but I think there will also be a hugging scene between Master Kwon and Team Leader Lee. The hunter who returns from hunting and the family who waits safely to greet them! Isn’t that a great scene?” “Oh, indeed. It’s a bit embarrassing to say that so openly.” Lee Hye-yeon giggled and tapped Kwon Seong-gil on the shoulder while he hung onto her neck. In Yoo-shin looked at the two and thought they looked like a bear clinging to a rabbit. They were known in the hunter world as a particularly good couple. “Of course, I’ll give you a small appearance fee.” “Oh, no, it’s fine, it’s fine. It’s just our faces showing up for a bit—how much is that worth, anyway? Instead, please let it slide that we let the monster escape outside the gate. Hey, you guys don’t need appearance fees either, right?” “Yes!” “I guess it’s like serving the country, right!?” Not only did they almost ruin the filming by mistaking the date, but the attack team members, feeling sheepish about letting a monster escape precisely in front of Ministry of Ability officials, readily agreed. A beaming smile spread across the face of Team Leader Noh, who had just saved on production costs. Lee Hye-yeon waddled over with Kwon Seong-gil hanging on behind her. She looked at him like a lover during a dramatic ten-year reunion, but from what In Yoo-shin heard, Lee Hye-yeon went to work at the dungeon just this morning. “Gyu-ha, you said you dealt with the monster who came out in front of you? Man, thank you.” She laughed heartily and tried to tap him on the shoulder, but Hyeon Gyu-ha resolutely avoided her touch. “Uh-huh. Has this  noona  lost her mind? Why would you carelessly touch the body of a man?” “What? What kind of crazy things are you talking about all of a sudden? Did that monster’s spit corrode your brain?” “ Noona , noona , the boy next to Gyu-ha is his boyfriend.” “Ah! That Master?” What kind of rumor was being spread among Hyeon Gyu-ha’s acquaintances and turning me into ‘that Master’……?  In Yoo-shin glanced up at Hyeon Gyu-ha without realizing it, but his face was still shameless and handsome. “…… How did rumors about me spread?” Then Hyeon Gyu-ha’s eyes narrowed significantly—as if he were waiting for In Yoo-shin to ask that question. Even while Yoo-shin was dozing off in a half-asleep state, he got startled by those words—and when he opened his eyes, Hyeon Gyu-ha’s face was right in front of his nose. “Eek!” “It hurts my pride if you scream like that at the sight of this handsome face.” “Gyu-ha- ssi,   you would   be surprised if you open your   eyes and see my face in front of you!” “I would be so grateful for Master’s kindness that I’d repay him with a kiss.” “You don’t have to repay me.” In Yoo-shin quickly moved his hips backwards to avoid Hyeon Gyu-ha. I felt like my agility has improved compared to before, so maybe being confined to the gym was worth it. Even so, my stats were still F. After calming down a bit, he took a breath and looked at Hyeon Gyu-ha. As their eyes met, Hyeon Gyu-ha smiled reflexively. It was the Hyeon Gyu-ha I knew.  In Yoo-shin stretched out his hand and gently grasped the tip of Hyeon Gyu-ha’s little finger. It’s not the Hyeon Gyu-ha who was killed by fragments. He confirmed his presence again. “You can keep thinking about wanting to kill me, and you can say it to me too. I think that it would be better than not thinking about anything at all.” “……” “Instead, be sure to take me with you when you go to a dungeon.” In Yoo-shin knew. When we confronted Atabeyra, he said that if I hadn’t been there, he would surely have attempted to die through passive suicide. “On the contrary, it is what I wish.” Did he know what I was thinking?  Having casually responded, Hyeon Gyu-ha grabbed In Yoo-shin’s hand that was touching his little finger, and gave him a kiss as light as a feather. * When he came out after washing up, Hyeon Gyu-ha was holding pajamas with a pattern of hamsters. “I thought it would be uncomfortable for you to wear the clothes I only had at home, so I stopped by Yoo-shin- ssi ’s house and brought some pajamas.” “Alright. I forgot to feed 6- se , so I’ll go home too.” “The feed container was empty, so I brought it to her. It’s natural for a little brother to help his  noona   eat. But I think she’s being a bit territorial. She kept glaring at me from behind the toilet paper roll.” “She’s just a little timid and wary.” If it weren’t for In Yoo-shin’s taming ability, he wouldn’t have even dreamed of handling her until now. “But how did you get into my house?” “You’ve left the window open.” “Aha.” It seemed I was in such a rush this morning that I forgot to lock the window.  He went into the small room and was about to change clothes when Hyeon Gyu-ha came in at a brisk pace. “…… I’m going to change my clothes.” “I know.” “Will you please leave for a moment?” “I’ll turn around. I’ll feel more at ease if I can at least hear the sound of you changing your clothes.” Then, Hyeon Gyu-ha turned his back quickly and stood facing the wall. In Yoo-shin scratched his head once and took off his clothes. Well, it’s not a big deal since we’re both guys and he’s not watching…… Even so, he changed quickly. Before he could even say he was done changing, Hyeon Gyu-ha, who had turned his back, narrowed his eyes slightly. “I’m finally seeing Master in hamster pajamas up close.” Up close……? That sounded a bit odd, but In Yoo-shin decided to let it slide. He’d have a nervous breakdown if he dwelled on every little thing Hyeon Gyu-ha said. It was time to go to bed after eating pizza for dinner and washing up, but it was a shame to go to bed right away because it was my first time visiting someone else’s house. ‘But what should we do for fun?’ In Yoo-shin looked to the side while searching up ‘how to hang out at a friend’s house’. Hyeon Gyu-ha, sitting close to him on the sofa, looked satisfied just by watching In Yoo-shin. “Gyu-ha -ssi , what do you do for fun when you have guests over?” “Do you think I have friends who would come over to my house?” “…… No.” “If you’re bored, should I buy a TV right now?” “Ah, that’s a bit much.” As he scrolled through the app, hoping to watch a drama on the small screen of his phone, Hyeon Gyu-ha, who had been staring intently, took out a tablet from his inventory. Right. He had a tablet. “That’s OTT, right? Install it here.” (over-the-top media service; streaming platform) “Ah, Gyu-ha- ssi , you don’t watch anything specific?” “I only heard about it.” Hyeon Gyu-ha’s tablet only had basic apps installed. It seemed like he didn’t use it unless he was checking documents or emails. When he installed the OTT app and tried to log in with his ID, Hyeon Gyu-ha took the tablet and registered as a new member. “I heard many people could watch things on this? You can just use my ID too, Yoo-shin. I’ll give it to you.” The two ended up watching a movie together with the tablet floating in the air, but In Yoo-shin couldn’t really concentrate on the movie. “…… But Gyu-ha- ssi .” “Yeah.” The answer came not from his side, but from above. Exactly above his head. Hyeon Gyu-ha had In Yoo-shin sit between his legs and was hugging him tightly from behind like a hen brooding her eggs. Held tightly in his arms, In Yoo-shin was naturally uncomfortable. All his sensitive nerves were focused on the man who was embracing him. Gyu-ha’s body didn’t feel like a human body, but like a solid wall. The heat of his body melded into Yoo-shin's as their bodies became tightly fitted together. His breaths flowed over the top of the hair on Yoo-shin’s head, and their pair of heartbeats overlapped at similar speeds, resonating loosely. When he moved his hand slightly, the arm that was wrapped around his forearm moved lower to hug his waist. He lightly patted his hair, running his fingers through it as he brought his face closer to him. ‘It feels like I’m being hugged by a big dog.’ He thought about it, then sighed. If I were really hugged by a big dog, there would be no need to be nervous. ‘No, no. I’m just feeling sensitive because I’m uncomfortable. It’s just similar to how when you’re stuck in a crowded subway, you feel nervous about who you might be touching.’ In Yoo-shin, who was about to say that he didn’t want to keep being held and ask if they could just sit side by side, looked at the status window and closed his lips. [Current Status: Murderous Intent. Separation Anxiety.] “…… It’s nothing.” This was a crowded subway. A crowded subway. A crowded subway……  In Yoo-shin thought hard about it in his head and decided not to think about the breath tickling his earlobe, the fingertips wrapping around his stomach, or the gaze he felt as his toes wiggled without realizing it. “Are you having a fever? Your face is a little red.” “I-I’m okay.” In Yoo-shin shrugged his shoulders to avoid Hyeon Gyu-ha’s hand, which was trying to touch the heat of his forehead. “Do you want to have a midnight snack?” Right now, it seemed like I wouldn’t even be able to eat tteokbokki properly. As he looked away, searching for the words to express that he didn’t have to eat, he made eye contact with Hyeon Gyu-ha, who was tilting his head to the side. “Hm?” The moment he met Gyu-ha’s eyes, which were gently smiling and as he looped his arms around him, his heart skipped a beat. I thought I had quite adapted to his appearance, but I guessed I was wrong. At a distance so close that I could almost think that his long eyelashes were fluttering slightly with my own breaths, his slowly blinking jewel-like eyes were unrealistically beautiful.  As he looked into his eyes, for a moment even this living room became a world of dreams, not reality. He swallowed his saliva without realizing it as he looked at himself reflected in those eyes. Were you really of the same race as me? In Yoo-shin mumbled in his head, leaving only a dazed expression on his face. Gyu-ha, who was staring from the beginning, quickly picked up on this. With relaxed and languid eyes, he whispered. “What are you thinking about, all of a sudden?” “Gyu-ha- ssi  is so handsome that he looks like he’s not human…….” It would have been easy to make an excuse with some appropriate words, but his mind was so far away that his true feelings came out. He realized his mistake after speaking, but only after Hyeon Gyu-ha had already heard it. “You can check whether I’m human or not by touching me.” He smiled slightly, grabbed In Yoo-shin’s hand and brought it close to his face. He absently fiddled with his fingers. In Yoo-shin caressed the sharply extended eyebrows, the long eyelashes that tickled his fingertips, the straight bridge of his nose, and even the soft lip line. He then curled his fingers in shock at his soft breath. “How does it feel?” “So soft and warm……” This time too, Hyeon Gyu-ha gazed down at In Yoo-shin, who was blankly staring at him, and lightly pressed his cheek to his face as if he was happy. His skin felt soft and warm, but Yoo-shin’s cheeks actually became hotter. “I wish I can continue to remain an ordinary human being next to Yoo-shin- ssi .” “You don’t have an ordinary face……” “Master is not ordinary either.” I wondered if there was a 20-year-old in the world who was as ordinary as me, but the courage to retort like that melted away from a beautifully curved smile. Hyeon Gyu-ha’s unique scent gently lingered in the air. In the end, I couldn’t remember anything from the movie. * The sofa was wide and In Yoo-shin was small. I was relieved because it was large enough to sleep and roll around on. “I can sleep on the sofa……” Before he could finish speaking, Hyeon Gyu-ha gently lifted him into a hug and entered the bedroom without hesitation. “The bed is larger.” “Gyu-ha -ssi , please sleep comfortably in your large bed alone !” Even though it’s large, it’s still a bed for sleeping alone. In Yoo-shin became anxious, feeling a sense of crisis that he would not be able to sleep at all if he was held so close to him, but Hyeon Gyu-ha did not even pretend to listen. *** HM: I love how Gyu-ha is referring himself as the younger brother and is saying that he helped his noona eat. wwwwwww Editor M: Sitting in his lap and now sleeping in the same bed… This part of the story caters specifically to me. ------ Credits: Translator: Hoshi Miya Editor/Proofreader: Editor M We made a discord server! please join us!

In Yoo-shin was shocked and shook his head. I shouldn’t find out. Not finding out is better for my mental health.   “It’s okay. I think I’ll understand even if I don’t learn why.”   “Don’t be like that—just listen to me. If I say you’re my boyfriend, lots of people will target you, so I’ll make an example of one of them for Master……”   Fortunately, Lee Hye-yeon, who had immediately understood Kwon Seong-gil’s explanation, looked back at In Yoo-shin with admiration and interrupted Hyeon Gyu-ha.   “I’m late to say hello, right? I didn’t even see you because you were hidden by Gyu-ha’s size. Nice to meet you, Master- ssi !”   “Hello, Hunter -nim . My name is In Yoo-shin, though……”   “Ah, isn’t your name Master?”   Lee Hye-yeon’s gaze on Hyeon Gyu-ha became a little strange, but she soon understood—because it was something Hyeon Gyu-ha did.   “Anyway, nice to meet you. If that guy, Gyu-ha, is bothering you, don’t feel pressured by him and tell me right away. Even if I can’t kill that bastard, if we mobilize all of our hunters, we can grab him by the ankles and give Yoo-shin- ssi  time to run away.”   As soon as they got acquainted with him, the couple told him to seek counseling if he were troubled. Just as In Yoo-shin took a moment to reevaluate Hyeon Gyu-ha’s personality, Team Leader Noh amiably joined them. Next to him was also Ohana, who was filming everything with a camcorder for now.   “Thanks to you hunters, I saved myself a lot of trouble today. I think the video will come out very nicely. You guys get along well, just as I’ve heard.”   “We’re not close.”   “I don’t know this couple.”   These were the words that came out of Lee Hye-yeon’s and Hyeon Gyu-ha’s mouths at the same time. Team Leader Noh smiled.   “Haha, it’s nice to see that you two get along so well like siblings. By the way, Hunter Hyeon Gyu-ha is also a talented member of our Ministry of Ability, just like Hunter Lee Hye-yeon……”   “……”   “Oh no, of course, that was just a joke, a joke! Hahahaha!”   When Hyeon Gyu-ha’s face hardened, Team Leader Noh quickly laughed and said he was joking, but his expression never softened. The air became stiff and awkward, and sweat began to run down Team Leader Noh’s face.   Worried about the unusual atmosphere, In Yoo-shin looked up and pulled his coat slightly.   “Gyu-ha- ssi ?” Hyeon Gyu-ha was muttering softly to himself. “That’s a really good idea. Why haven’t I thought of this until now? It’s a way to be by Yoo-shin’s side without being noticed.”   “Are you saying you were being mindful of others until now?” “Of course.” His tone was confident. “Why do you think I deliver coffee and desserts to the office every morning?” Did you mean you didn’t mean to exploit Team Leader Hong as a coffee shuttle? “Even when bothered by things like setting up a photo zone, they patiently took pictures for us.” It was a tribute that the employees voluntarily offered to the Karen-fighting totem.  “I didn’t say anything even though my date was interrupted by some vlog filming.” In the first place, I wanted to point out that the basis of having a date at someone else’s workplace was wrong. “Yoo-shin is busy working during office hours and doesn’t pay any attention to me, so I just quietly sit on the sofa without disturbing him.” “You were… definitely being mindful of others.” In Yoo-shin nodded repeatedly. It’s true that he was being mindful of others. Kwon Seong-gil and Lee Hye-yeon, who were listening to their conversation with expressions of disbelief, also agreed. “That guy…… There’s even a time when he's mindful of other people?” “What kind of love can change even a person who used to live with arrogance? Ew, that’s gross. Seong-gil -ah , look at the goosebumps on my forearms.” Meanwhile, Team Leader Noh and Oh Ha-na were speechless. Given that rumors about the abuse of power Hyeon Gyu-ha committed in the Department of Public Welfare had spread widely, even to other departments, his being mindful of others, you say? If that were his being mindful of others, what would he intend to do when he wasn’t……? Team Leader Noh relaxed his shoulders and cleared his mind. That wasn’t what mattered now. “Hunter- nim.  Can I take it as a serious thing, and not a joke, that you want to become a hunter belonging to the Ministry of Ability? Do you need more time to think about it?” Hunters who signed a contract with the Ministry of Ability were considered public officials in a broad sense. This meant that the annual salary was low compared to hunter guilds, which were private companies. No matter how many tax benefits and welfare provisions were provided, they could not beat the salaries of private companies.   However, this did not mean that they could enjoy power.   Decades ago, the government, which had barely suppressed a coup d’état led by government officials, changed its policy. Official hunters in field positions were prohibited from exercising any form of power, including military power.   For this reason, only some of the top rankers like Lee Hye-yeon, who had noblesse oblige or a sense of mission because of their privileged status as hunters, worked for the government. Other than that, most of them were mediocre hunters. Or perhaps they had ambitions to rise to a high-ranking government position. “My only condition is permitted office dating with Yoo-shin- ssi .” “That…… um, um. Perhaps, if we make Yoo-shin- ssi  a manager in charge of Hunter- nim , u-um, it’ll work out! I’ll make it happen!” “It’s good that we can communicate, unlike Team Leader Hong.” “I’ll report this directly to my superiors, so please wait just a moment, just a moment!” Team Leader Noh grabbed his cell phone and rushed off. Lee Hye-yeon frowned slightly. “Hey, Hyeon Gyu-ha. It’s all good, but your method……” “Yoo-shin- ssi , is it okay if you change from Department of Public Welfare? If you want to stay at this department, I’ll cancel.” Lee Hye-yeon was about to point out something like, ‘Are you going to decide the treatment of Yoo-shin- ssi on your own without listening to his opinion?’ but she shut her mouth. Instead, she muttered to herself. “Oh my god, has Gyu-ha become a human……?” In Yoo-shin pretended not to hear what she was saying to herself and answered Hyeon Gyu-ha. “Well, I’m a contract worker anyway, so I can go wherever you want. But do you really plan on canceling if I say no?” “No way. If I’m away from you, I feel like I’ll die from anxiety, so how could I give up office dating? I was trying to persuade Master.” “……” It seemed likely that Yoo-shin would have been persuaded semi-forcibly, whether through Gyu-ha’s looks, his sophistry, or some other means. Thus, Hyeon Gyu-ha’s bombshell announcement turned the Ministry of Ability upside-down once again, and Hyeon Gyu-ha did indeed sign the contract. He did it less than an hour after his bombshell announcement. This was the recruitment of an S -class hunter, not just another mere hunter. Normal procedures would have started with a press conference, but for the Ministry of Ability, it was urgent to get the seal of approval before Hyeon Gyu-ha changed his mind. The minister, who had missed an opportunity the previous day, not only succeeded in taking a promotional photo standing side-by-side with Hyeon Gyu-ha, but also got an autograph to give to his son. The head of the Ministry of Ability even sent a government car to try and escort him to the office building, but Hyeon Gyu-ha flatly refused and rode his motorcycle. Thanks to that, In Yoo-shin somewhat involuntarily also ended up having to follow along, clinging to his back. And for some reason, I was even present at the signing of the contract, and even exchanged greetings with Attorney Yoo, whom I had only heard of. “Ah, I see this is In Yoo-shin- ssi .” What was actually going on among Hyeon Gyu-ha’s acquaintances? Uh, the contract was finished while In Yoo-shin was occupied, and when he came to his senses, he realized he was going to the parking lot side-by-side with Hyeon Gyu-ha. Just like his usual way home from work. Hyeon Gyu-ha’s thumb gently scratched the back of his hand. “What are you thinking?” It was as if faint electricity sparked from where their fingertips brushed, making In Yoo-shin flinch his shoulder. He tried to subtly pull his caught hand away, but Hyeon Gyu-ha didn’t let go. Instead, he pulled on his arm. “Uwagh.”    Suddenly pulled forward in an instant, In Yoo-shin hit his chest. His heart pounded once. I felt it every time I unintentionally got close to him, but he had a really solid body. It didn’t look like he had enormous muscles, but how could his body be so strong?   Having lifted his head, this time In Yoo-shin was startled and quickly stepped back. He was too close to Hyeon Gyu-ha—that is to say, his face, which was harmful to the heart.   Hyeon Gyu-ha bent down as much as In Yoo-shin stepped back. From a distance close enough to see the texture of his long eyelashes, his amber gaze, narrowed into a smile, persistently followed him. In Yoo-shin tried hard to avoid that gaze by shifting his eyes to the side. “There is also CCTV here.” “Yes.” “It’s past work hours, but I don’t know if there are people going home after working overtime……” “Yes.” “Uh, can you move away a little bit?” “Don’t want to. Even though I’m right next to you, you’re thinking about something else. The only other thing I can forgive you for thinking about is my sister, Henry Raymond Charles Francois VI.” In Yoo-shin opened and closed his lips slightly. And after thinking about it, he opened them again. “I was wondering if I could ask you this now that everything is over.” HM: GH and Lee Hye-yeon remind me of our 2 editors currently PA: He actually making Yoo-shin promote HAHHAHAHA ( ๑‾̀◡‾́)✨  Hye-yeon girl is funny too. “…… Did you disappear because you didn’t want to exercise?” “I decided to eat tteokbokki just for today and work hard tomorrow……” “Ah……” Hyeon Gyu-ha slowly blinked, and his expression slowly returned to his cold, indifferent face. [Current Status: Murderous Intent.] Hyeon Gyu-ha looked back in silence and faced countless eyes staring at them. He sighed briefly, took off his jacket, then covered In Yoo-shin’s face with it, holding him in his arms as he flew over to the back of the tents. Only then did a murmur erupt among the people who were free from the emotional pressure caused by Hyeon Gyu-ha. Although the broadcasting department came to its senses belatedly and stopped broadcasting, the live video that day recorded the highest number of viewers. *** The breath pouring from his mouth was hot. Even though Yoo-shin was having the rare experience of sitting in the silence of the sky, he could only feel the presence of Hyeon Gyu-ha hugging him from behind. Even after Hyeon Gyu-ha found out that he hadn’t abandoned him, he could hardly loosen his hold on him. “……” In the silence, where only the sound of heavy breathing could be heard, In Yoo-shin sat still, trapped between Gyu-ha’s arms and legs. Soon, Gyu-ha’s breathing gradually subsided and the heartbeat he felt on his back slowed down to a regular speed. “Did you hate working out that much?” Hearing his voice that slowly returned, In Yoo-shin glanced at the status window and responded. [Current Status: Murderous Intent.] “It’s not that I don’t like it that much…… It’s hard, but I felt a little better when my friend told me that my body’s appearance was improving. There’s no harm in exercising.” “If you miss this exam, you’ll have to take it half a year later, and I guess I was too impatient because I felt that I couldn’t be away from you during that time. I won’t nag you anymore.” “Then what do you plan on doing about the dungeon?” “You don’t have to go.” Hyeon Gyu-ha answered easily, but In Yoo-shin, listening to him, felt a little complicated.  At most, he signed a contract with the Ministry of Ability not to work properly, but just to have a romantic relationship inside the office……? Regardless of what Hyeon Gyu-ha might say or do behind our backs, they can’t ignore him.   And there’s no one who could pressure him or intimidate him with their authority if he slacked off.  Upper management probably thought that if they pushed Hyeon Gyu-ha too hard, he might leave with In Yoo-shin, so they wouldn’t be able to come down on him too hard either. They would probably just harass the middle management. His anxiety grew as he thought about Manager Kim, who was innocently caught in the middle and would go through all sorts of hardships. ‘When he introduced me, he seemed like a nice person…… When I talked to the manager in charge, he said that unlike Team Leader Hong, he has a good reputation in the department……’ He also heard that she was struggling as a single income earner for a while since her husband was hospitalized. Compared to that, he felt that his situation of whining because exercise was difficult meant nothing. “…… I will exercise.” “Really?” “I think I have no choice but to pass if I don’t want to become a salary Lupin (lackluster employee who still gets paid) for half a year. But please be a little gentle.” “Sure. I’ll do just enough so that Master will never think of abandoning me again.” Hyeon Gyu-ha’s voice had a faint hint of joy. Was it that good? However, what he was imagining in his mind was a little different from In Yoo-shin's guess. “Because it’s easier to manipulate the physical exam than the written exam.” “…… I’ll do my best to prevent Gyu-ha- ssi  from committing any illegal activities.” Hyeon Gyu-ha’s scheme—to threaten the supervisor and secretly change the non-passing grade to a passing grade—had to be prevented. “But Yoo-shin- ssi …” Still hugging him, Hyeon Gyu-ha placed his chin on the top of his head. “Can you stay with me today? I’ll buy you tteokbokki .” “Pizza, not tteokbokki .” “Okay.” He sensed a grin behind his back. It was a pretty smile even if I couldn’t see it. * Hyeon Gyu-ha soared across the skies of Seoul while holding In Yoo-shin in his arms. “Aren’t we going to my house?” “Yoo-shin- ssi ’s house is nice, but the mattress there is only for one person.” Did this mean he wanted me to sleep over? Since Park Seung-gi was a dormitory student, In Yoo-shin, who had never stayed at a friend’s house before, was a little excited. And when he arrived at Hyeon Gyu-ha’s officetel, he was surprised again and again. First, it was because of the wonderful view of the Han River visible through the wide window, and then because of the extremely barren interior. Even if the homeowner pursued minimalism, they were bound to leave their traces in the living space. Although In Yoo-shin barely survived on minimum wage, he raised hamsters and succulent plants. There were also books that he had borrowed from the library. There was nothing like that in Hyeon Gyu-ha’s officetel. The basic interior was very clean and luxurious, but that was all. In the space that was maintained like a model house, there were no traces of the individual named ‘Hyeon Gyu-ha’ anywhere. If it were a hunter’s house, there would at least be a few spare weapons. “Uh…… I guess you don’t watch TV? Well, there are a lot of houses without TVs these days.” As soon as Yoo-shin managed to say something out of embarrassment, Hyeon Gyu-ha went for his cell phone. “What are you doing?” “I’m buying a TV, and I’ll have it delivered right away. The bigger the TV screen, the better, right?” “Ah, no! I’m not interested in watching TV!” In Yoo-shin quickly grabbed Hyeon Gyu-ha’s hand. “I’m just curious about what Gyu-ha usually does to spend time, since there is nothing to play with at home.” “I’m usually just lying down without thinking about anything.” “…… Without any thoughts?” “Yeah.” Hyeon Gyu-ha pondered while tapping his chin and then rephrased his words. “Not these days, I guess. I think of you, Yoo-shin -ssi . Sometimes I think of ways to kill you without using my own hands. Oh wait, it’s better not to talk about that anymore.” As he said that, Hyeon Gyu-ha quickly grabbed his hand—like he’s afraid of being abandoned again. In Yoo-shin thought about the difference between the hand he felt at the festival booth and the hand holding him now. The hand, which had no warmth like a corpse, was filled with a gentle vitality just by staying by his side. “Gyu-ha- ssi , don’t you have any hobbies?” “Well…… only people with free time can afford to have hobbies, right?” Holding his hand tightly, Hyeon Gyu-ha led him to the sofa and sat him down. Having a smooth sheen of leather, the sofa was clean as though no one had ever sat on it. “Um, how should I explain it?” Hyeon Gyu-ha continued speaking slowly, pondering as if this were his first time talking about it. “Let’s say you run a hundred-meter race. Running a hundred meters is different from long-distance running, in that you have to sprint as hard as you can. I don’t want to run, but there is a very important prize at stake, so I have to take first place.” “Do you mean you have to force yourself?” “To put it simply, yes. You can think of it as a situation where you are forced onto the track to run at full speed to the finish line. But……” Hyeon Gyu-ha moved with the index fingers of each hand held one by one. His left finger was the runner, and his right finger was the finish line. “If I run ten meters like this, the finish line will be nine meters away. If I run twenty meters, it moves eighteen meters away. As a result, it keeps moving further away from me as I get closer. And I want to give up because I can’t do anything but run, but there’s no other way. I have to come in first place and win the prize.” “……” “This is me.” Hyeon Gyu-ha waved the index finger of his left hand. He had the same mischievous smile as usual, but In Yoo-shin couldn’t force himself to laugh. “After doing this for about twenty years, I can’t do anything but run—there’s nothing I can do, and there’s nothing I can think of other than running.” “…… Isn’t it hard?” That was all I could say. Only a shallow worry that barely scratched the surface of the life he had walked in the past. “I don’t even know what hardship is. I guess…… I should say that I feel helpless, because I can’t reach the goal no matter how much I run. So, I engaged in passive suicide. Even if I don’t intentionally jump into the road, I feel like I don’t have the will to avoid a car that’s charging at me.” Seeing In Yoo-shin’s expression, Hyeon Gyu-ha finished his speech with a curvature of his lips. “I don’t feel like letting myself die anymore, though. Because you are here.” There was not a single shadow in his eyes as he lowered his head to make eye contact and smiled faintly. Just like always when I saw myself captured in his eyes. In Yoo-shin now understood Gyu-ha’s profound boredom. * 【———!】 The fragment of a degraded god cried out. Having lost its reason, the god stretched out the arms of a frog, not realizing that it cannot reach no matter how much it extended. It stood on tiptoes. It leaped. It screamed. As it repeated its futile attacks, the fragmented god grew weary. A man simply stared down at it with an infinitely bored gaze. It’s a game of chicken. Would the fragment’s stamina run out, or would the man’s mana? The answer would be whoever reached their limit and died first. Finally overloaded by the constant consumption of mana to maintain their abilities, his brain cells screamed. Ahh. So it was I who reached the end first. As if its thread had been suddenly cut, the body that was roaming freely in the sky plummeted down. His upside-down view flitted like a flash, and the exhausted fragment cried out. His hand, covered in a large film, darted out and blocked the sun. The man blinked slowly as shadows darkened his vision. It’s great. It was the feeling of freedom. * “Yoo-shin -ssi , wake up. You have to brush your teeth before going to bed.” “…… Mhm.” “I’ll take that as a yes to ‘you can wake me up with a kiss.’” *** HM: I love how HGH was like ‘Let me buy a TV real quick’ …. “What do you mean?” “It’s just…… Gyu-ha -ssi  has always hated being affiliated with someplace. But since our relationship is over once taming is lifted, I was wondering if it’s okay for you to sign a contract with the Ministry of Ability.” There was a video of Hyeon Gyu-ha entering a gate, having simply raised his middle finger without a word towards a guild member who had been chasing him to scout him. Furthermore, the guild member’s crestfallen expression, like that of a dog that chased a chicken, still circulated as a meme. Hyeon Gyu-ha straightened his bent waist and looked down at In Yoo-shin. “Yoo-shin- ssi  is a person who always thinks about the future.” “That’s because it’s a habit.” No matter what happens, assuming the worst will lessen the shock when it happens. This was In Yoo-shin’s defense mechanism, having suffered two un-adoptions and one death. “There wasn’t any particular reason why I didn’t join a guild. It was just that belonging somewhere creates bothersome human relationships, and I simply disliked having someone bossing me around and telling me what to do. To scout me, offering the guild leader position wouldn’t even be enough, but they offered me something like a directorial position—how could I not be annoyed?” “Right, right. With Gyu-ha- ssi ’s personality, it would be impossible for him to endure working under someone else.” “What’s wrong with my personality?” “It’s a compliment.” “Master, you can sit atop my head and control me as you please.” “Thank you.” Despite that, it was actually Hyeon Gyu-ha who pushed forward with his nerve and sophistry, but anyway. “My father is the only person who controls my life—I don’t want to add more.” Come to think of it, Yoo-shin once heard from Hyeon Gyu-ha in the dungeon that his father was a king. He couldn’t tell if Gyu-ha was joking or being serious, and his head got so confused by it that he just ignored him…… Even when I searched the internet, I couldn’t find anything about Hyeon Gyu-ha’s father. The only parent of Hyeon Gyu-ha known to the public was his mother, Hyeon So-ra. Although speculation abounded, it’s unknown who So-ra’s current lover or spouse was. Since it was an uncommon surname, his surname Hyeon was probably his mother’s. If you took your mother’s last name 30 years ago, when it was more conservative than it is today, there was a high possibility that she would’ve been a single mother. I was not his real lover, though, so I shouldn’t touch his intimate family affairs. He just nodded his head, and Hyeon Gyu-ha traced the back of his hand in a circle again. A tingling sensation spread across every skin his hand touched. The tips of his fingers twitched and wriggled spontaneously. “Don’t you wonder who my father is? Everyone else is curious.” “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious…… but I don’t think I should ask.” “I’ll tell Yoo-shin -ssi . Just ask me one question.” In Yoo-shin chose a question that he thought was relatively easy. “Are you by any chance of mixed race? I was wondering if your father is a foreigner.” “I’m from Romania. To be exact, I was born in Serbia a long time ago.” All thoughts in his head vanished. It made sense if he’s from Romania. As if knowing the doubts swirling in his head, Hyeon Gyu-ha smiled faintly. The amber color of his eyes looking down had a faint tinge of blood. “Yes. It’s a land famous for vampire legends.” * - ‘In the process of producing promotional videos, Hunter Hyeon Gyu-ha had positive meetings with the Ministry of Ability……’ Is it a hunter recruitment article or the truth about the dating rumors? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ ㄴ Where are all the bastards who said that Hyeon Gyu-ha won’t join a guild because of his terrible personality? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ ㄴㄴThose scoundrels are leaving malicious comments saying they don’t even conduct ethics or aptitude tests when hiring public servants. ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I think they’ll bite him even more for becoming a civil servant. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ ㄴ Hunters suck up all kinds of benefits and money, but even their salaries have to be paid with my taxes? I didn’t think about this problem.” “What is it?” “Someone told me something I forgot.” Hyeon Gyu-ha, who had handed a PDF of the malicious comments about In Yoo-shin over to the law firm, looked down at him. “Are you particularly fond of working as a contract civil servant?” “No. I’m just doing it because I was hired to.” “Then what will you do if a guild scouts you later or something?” “I don’t know why they’re trying to scout me, but… if they pay me more than the minimum wage I’m receiving now, I’ll join them.” “Is that so? You can do whatever you want, Yoo-shin -ssi , but when the Narsha guild comes to scout you, please think twice about whether to join them or not.” “Uh, why?” “I don't like the Narsha guild leader. I would say, it feels like he's hiding some dark scheme.” “The 2nd rank guild leader?” “Yes. The guild leader who is struggling to dig under the soles of my feet.” (Possibly derived from a Korean idiom [포크레인 앞에서 삽질한다: digging in front of a excavator]; no matter how good you are with a shovel, you can’t compete with an excavator.) Narsha guild was one of the largest guilds in Korea, and it is directly managed by its leader, Gong Tae-seong, who was also a top S-ranker known as the Flame Emperor. However, Hyeon Gyu-ha had pushed him out of the hunter ranking’s 1st place, and he was unable to escape from 2nd place ever since. I suddenly wondered about Gong Tae-seong’s personality, considering that Hyeon Gyu-ha was also not a very good person. But there was something more curious than that. Just as Yoo-shin was about to ask, ‘What’s the relationship between Narsha guild’s scouting me and Gyu-ha- ssi ?’ a complainant came in. “I came to pick up a certificate for proof of the damages I suffered.” Even as he spoke about his business, the complainant’s gaze was focused on Hyeon Gyu-ha, who was lying floating above In Yoo-shin’s head and eating potato chips. “Is it damage to your workplace or personal damage to you?” “Our workplace……” The hesitating complainant eventually couldn’t hold back and asked. “Hunter -nim , what are you doing up there?” “An office date as long as it doesn’t interfere with work.” Leaving In Yoo-shin aside, the other employees nearby clearly seemed bothered by his entering the work area without hesitation, but since it was legal, what could they say? The complainant just nodded with a blank expression and went out, glancing at Hyeon Gyu-ha, who was floating in the air, even after taking the documents. In Yoo-shin was a little embarrassed. “Ah, right.” Regardless, Hyeon Gyu-ha reached out his hand in the air and popped a potato chip into his mouth. Meanwhile, the salty potato chip was delicious. “Workplace romance—what an exciting phrase. Let’s become a pair of cockroaches in the Ministry of Ability.” (This a reference to a novel called The Metamorphosis  where the main character wakes up one day as a giant insect. Some people use this sentence as a joke or a challenge to their friends, family, or lovers, to see how they would react if they became cockroaches together.) “Yes.” This agonizing embarrassment would only last a few days.   If I moved to a department where I encountered fewer people in it, I would feel less embarrassed, maybe. * “I think In Yoo-shin is the reason why Hyeon Gyu-ha was hired by the Ministry of Ability.” The man who was putting on his tie in front of the mirror merely glanced at his secretary. A puzzled look appeared in his sharp, impatient eyes. “In Yoo-shin? Who is that?” “I reported this to you last time, but have you forgotten? He is Hyeon Gyu-ha’s lover.” “What? That ‘Master’ guy? I thought that crazy bastard is just acting out again because he had another one of his fits, but is he seriously dating? No, before that, is he really gay?” “I don’t know if he’s gay or bi.” The secretary shrugged and continued reporting. “According to the on-site staff who were filming the promotional video, he said he wanted to become part of the Ministry of Ability in order to date without worrying about others.” “Lunatic. The guy who said he didn’t want to come to our guild even if we offered him a hidden boss’ crystal or Muramasa? (A/N: swords made by the Japanese swordsmith Muramasa)” “He said he would refuse Japanese swords.” “…… So, even though I swapped Muramasa for the Yongcheon Sword (A/N: General Im Gyeong-eop’s sword) and offered it to him, he still kicked that away, but now he’s doing this just because he is just that kind of lover?” “It’s romantic.” “Do you really think that Hyeon Gyu-ha is doing these ridiculous things because he’s blinded by love?” “I don’t know.” The man returned to his desk and sat down in his chair, frowning at the sour-faced secretary. “He’s said to be someone whose distrust of humans is so extreme that he would not hesitate to kill Kwon Seong-gil or Lee Hye-yeon, who are his close friends, even if they make a mistake. That bastard doesn’t trust anyone. He’s not a person who can have a normal relationship and live like other people. There must be another reason…… Otherwise, there must be something hidden about that lover.” HM: I guess… the cat’s out of the box if you think abt it… PA: Well…. I’m more interested in Gyu’s father. Editor M: The two characters at the end are like, “Hyeon Gyu-ha may be a lunatic but this is not his usual brand of lunacy.” And they are right—he has an oshi now. Editor’s Daily Entries: PA Feb 20/24:  I got called by my boss again because someone reported me again(?) It was dismissed again cause it was during my break. She said that the report about me was appearing almost every day, I got upset this time and asked who’s reporting me but got no answer. I know, I understand that my boss won’t reveal it. So I decided to investigate by myself. Feb 21/24:  I felt gazes again, I looked up and saw my workmate awkwardly avoiding my eyes. I knew at that moment that it was this person who kept reporting me. • I Tamed the First Rank Chapter 29

“It seems like you’re overthinking this. There are many accounts of people witnessing how lovey-dovey Hyeon Gyu-ha is right now, so would you like me to show you a few?” “My eyes are rotting.” The man pushed away the tablet that his secretary handed to him without even looking at it, and gestured lightly. “Take a thorough look at In Yoo-shin. So thorough that you can even find out what he ate this morning.” After the secretary left, the man, who had been thinking while rubbing his chin, tapped his temple. “Hey.” 『……』 “Please wake up, Sleeping Beauty.” 『Huaaahm.』 After a few proddings, a loud yawn rang in his head. The man closed his eyes once and then opened them again. 『Why did you call me?』 Before his eyes, a huge whale was floating in the air as if swimming. Eyes larger than those of most young men blinked slowly. The whale, which was an almost opaque illusion, was not content with merely occupying the wide office and writhed its body, which extended out through the building. If witnessed from outside, it would look as though the building were piercing the whale’s massive body. However, the only person who could see the whale was the man. Though its body was so breathtaking that merely looking at it could cause one to lose their senses, the man knew that this too was something condensed and clumped together, miniaturized as if made from molding clay. If this whale were to manifest in its true form, the Earth could potentially split apart. “I heard Hyeon Gyu-ha has a lover.” 『Whoaa. Is Prince- nim  getting married?』 “I don’t know that. Anyway, they say it’s this person; do you sense anything about him? Is he by any chance the same age as Hyeon Gyu-ha?” The man took out a photo of In Yoo-shin from a document he had received from his secretary the other day and showed it to the whale. The whale’s large eyes were glued closely to the photo, which was smaller than its pupil. 『Umm. This is just a meaningless snapshot of a moment made by humans. I can’t tell from this alone. I guess I’ll have to see him in person to find out.』 The whale spoke slowly in a dull tone, opened its huge mouth again, yawned, then closed its squinting eyes. 『Call me again when the time comes. I’m going to sleep.』 When the whale closed its eyes completely, the illusion disappeared as if it had never existed. Returning to his original office, he looked down at the photo he was holding in his hand. There was a young man there who had a fairly clean and cute face, but no one would have paid any attention to him if it weren’t for the rumor that he was ‘that lover’ of Hyeon Gyu-ha. He was In Yoo-shin. The man, Narsha’s guild leader Gong Tae-sung, pondered that name for a long time. 4. 23:00 sharp. ‘Munin’s Eye’ floating in one corner of my field of vision. Cell phone in one hand. Location: rooftop. Today was perfect, too. After tearing open the scroll containing the skill that prevented any sound from escaping, Hyeon Gyu-ha calmly made a phone call. “Yoo-shin- ssi , it’s time to go to sleep, right?” - I’ve spread out my bedding and was just about to sleep. What about you, Gyu-ha -ssi ? “I’m going to sleep too. What pajamas are you wearing?” - They’re pajamas with a hamster pattern. “That sounds cute. Show me next time.” - Would you like to come over to my house and spend the night? “I’m going to go now.” - I-I’m going too……. After some trivial chat, the call ended. In Yoo-shin had a regular schedule of going to bed by 11 o’clock at the latest. The light shining in the rooftop room soon went out. Hyeon Gyu-ha closed his eyes on the roof, listening to the rustling noises that soon became quiet. Then, exactly three hours later, he woke up. ‘Where is In Yoo-shin?’ As soon as Gyu-ha woke up, he checked the coordinates of Yoo-shin’s location. In Yoo-shin was still sleeping in the room under the roof. There was still a long time left until sunrise. If there were a dungeon, I would’ve gone hunting again, and if I were in an officetel, my terrible boredom would’ve made me drink alcohol that couldn’t even get me drunk, but right now, In Yoo-shin was under this roof. Hyeon Gyu-ha remained motionless on the rooftop until sunrise. They say you could call just having the thought of wanting to die depression, but was this, an weariness so exhausting that it wouldn't matter if I died, also depression? Hyeon Gyu-ha thought. Even those worries soon disappeared, and Hyeon Gyu-ha’s head became empty. Just like always. As the eastern sky began to brighten, Hyeon Gyu-ha realized a subtle abnormality from In Yoo-shin last night. The lights inside had been shining brightly through the window until he turned them off. ‘He fell asleep without closing the curtains again. If he had blackout curtains installed, why wasn’t he using them?’ Hyeon Gyu-ha leaned his upper body over the roof’s edge. He didn’t properly close the curtains on the window again. He used psychokinesis to quietly move the curtains to cover the window. The succulent plant pots on the windowsill were safe and did not fall. It’s a shame that I couldn’t see In Yoo-shin sleep because of the curtains mounted on the wall. But since I wasn’t a real stalker, I didn’t open the window and go inside to check his sleeping face. Hyeon Gyu-ha just felt like he would despair if he could not confirm In Yoo-shin’s presence, and the despair of being abandoned made him want to destroy the world, so he checked his Master’s safety from time to time. That was all. Thanks to the anonymous stalker covering the window, In Yoo-shin woke up from a rough sleep. Hyeon Gyu-ha didn’t know that In Yoo-shin kept forgetting because Hyeon Gyu-ha was the one closing the curtains for him on the days he forgot to do it. “6- seya , did you have a good night?” “Squeak . ” After a night spent running on the wheel, escaping the cage to explore and returning, nibbling on food, having a good sand bath, and even seeing Hyeon Gyu-ha secretly close the curtain, 6- se  cried happily. With half-asleep eyes, In Yoo-shin reached out and patted 6 -se , then yawned and went into the bathroom. It’s time to get ready for work. Hyeon Gyu-ha also took a regretful step off the roof and flew to his officetel. He also had to wash up and give In Yoo-shin a bike ride on his way to work. It was a typical morning. * On his way home from work, In Yoo-shin was waiting at the entrance for Hyeon Gyu-ha to come up on his motorbike, which he had parked underground. Taking advantage of a moment when Hyeon Gyu-ha, who was with him all day, wasn’t around, he quickly did a search. Searching again didn’t change the results he got last night. ‘There is currently no king in Romania……’ The Romanian-Serbian monarchy collapsed decades ago. Even in countries where the monarchy has been abolished, there were formerly royal claimants to the throne, but Hyeon Gyu-ha’s words did not seem to refer to them. In Yoo-shin looked for descendants of the Romanian-Serbian royal family just in case, but he couldn’t find a man who looked like Hyeon Gyu-ha. ‘This one also has something in common: they’re both good-looking…… but Gyu-ha is more handsome.’ So then, was it really a joke? It only made my head spin even more.  When In Yoo-shin sensed that someone was close by, he quickly put his phone in his pocket and raised his head. “Excuse me, but are you In Yoo-shin -ssi  of the Department of Public Welfare?” “Yes, I’m In Yoo-shin. Who are you?” “Haha. Sorry for the late greeting. I’m Lim Ji-hoon of the Seongho Guild.” The man held out his business card with a businesslike smile. “We want to invite In Yoo-shin- ssi  to our guild. Our Seongho guild is still small in size, but it has several hunters, including Hunter Jang Seong-guk- nim , who is a top-ranked B-level hunter. If you’re interested, may we set up a separate meeting and give you a detailed explanation?” “Uh, that’s……” “If you are busy right now, please tell me a convenient time. After work hours or on weekends is also okay.” As In Yoo-shin blinked in confusion, surprised by the sudden situation, a hand fell lightly onto his shoulder. It was Hyeon Gyu-ha. “We’ll take a look and contact you later. We're on our way to a date now. “Sorry to disturb you! Then, I’ll be waiting for your contact. Have a nice evening!” The man, who was aggressively barraging In Yoo-shin—who at first glance looked young and seemed like a pushover—quickly bowed his head and bid farewell as soon as Hyeon Gyuha resolutely cut him off. Hyeon Gyu-ha snatched the business card from In Yoo-shin’s hand, who was blinking since he still didn’t understand what was happening, then tore it up and threw it away. “If you’re gonna join a guild anyway, go for a large one instead of some unheard-of crappy little guild like this. Since it looks like the competition is starting little by little, if you just hold out for a day or two, the annual salary will probably go up into the hundreds of millions of won.) “A hundred million? My annual salary?” “Sure. Now then, let’s go on a real date to make my excuse true. What do you want for dinner? That meat restaurant from last time?” Hyeon Gyu-ha had dinner with In Yoo-shin, who still did not understand the situation, called him every two hours from the roof as usual and then put him to sleep. And two days later, In Yoo-shin truly received an email offering an annual salary of hundreds of millions of won. It started with the Anpang guild under Yangsa Group, a large conglomerate. Scout calls poured in from all directions. Sometimes from in front of his house. Sometimes in front of the Ministry of Ability, sometimes by email. Even a person filled with unfounded confidence would have no choice but to realize this: that he was bait to catch Hyeon Gyu-ha. PA: I want to see Yoo-shin’s reaction when he finally found out about Gyu-ha being a stocker as side line-side line. ☭ ͜ʖ ☭) Editor M: This author knows how to write comedy. ‘“I am not a real stalker,” said Hyeon Gyu-ha the stalker.’ Editor’s Daily Entries: PA Feb 24/24: At 6 am   I finished some orders for my business, and I drank the remaining double black. I woke super late, like 10 pm so I decided to edit again. ------ Credits: Translator: Hoshi Miya Editor/Proofreader: PsycheAsylum, Editor M We made a discord server! please join us!
